Belgian Pro League outfit FCV Dender have announced the signing of Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brentford, Bold Sports reports.

The club confirmed the deal via an official statement released on its website on Friday, expressing excitement about the highly-rated talent’s addition to their squad.

“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Benjamin Fredrick. The 20-year-old defender is on loan from English club Brentford this season,” the statement read.

“Just in time for the start of the new season, Benjamin Fredrick joins our squad. He’s only 20 years old, but he’s already played for the Nigerian national team. He completed his youth development in Nigeria until his move to Brentford in 2023.”

Fredrick, who joined Brentford from Simoiben Academy in Kaduna, made an immediate impact in his first season in England, delivering consistent performances for the club’s development side which earned him the U-21 Player’s Player of the Season award.

Prior to his move abroad, the central defender was a standout performer for Nigeria’s U-20 team. He played a vital role in their third-place finish at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, featuring in every match as they progressed to the semi-finals. That same year, he was named in Nigeria’s squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Fredrick recently stepped up to the senior national team, making his Super Eagles debut in the 2025 Unity Cup final against Jamaica where Nigeria triumphed on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time. Now in Belgium, Fredrick will be looking to maintain his upward trajectory in a league that has served as a platform for several top Nigerian players.
