Nottingham Forest, home to Super Eagles duo Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, have sacked head coach Ange Postecoglou following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

The loss extended Forest’s winless run under the Australian to eight matches across all competitions, prompting the club’s hierarchy to act swiftly. The team have endured a torrid start to the campaign, failing to register a single victory since Postecoglou’s appointment.

Awoniyi made his first Premier League start of the season in the defeat to Chelsea but was unable to make an impact as the visitors cruised to victory courtesy of second-half goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James. Aina, meanwhile, remains sidelined through injury.

In an official statement released shortly after the match, Nottingham Forest confirmed the decision to part ways with the former Tottenham boss:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time,” the statement read.

Postecoglou’s dismissal brings an abrupt end to a short-lived tenure lasting just 39 days, making it the second briefest managerial spell in Premier League history. Only Sam Allardyce’s 30-day stint at Leeds United was shorter.

Forest are now set to appoint their third manager of the season by mid-October. According to reports, Fulham manager Marco Silva has emerged as a leading contender to take over, while former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is also under consideration.
