Bundesliga side Augsburg have agreed a deal in principle to sign Nigerian striker Uchenna Ogundu from Turkish outfit Alanyaspor, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 19-year-old is expected to finalise his permanent move to the German side on Sunday, with Augsburg planning to integrate him straight into the senior team rather than sending him to the academy or out on loan.

Ogundu’s rise has been rapid and remarkable, starting from his early development in Nigeria with Diamond Football Academy. In the summer of 2024, he took his first major step abroad when he joined the youth academy of Turkish club Şanlıurfaspor.

His progress at the club was swift, earning him a promotion to the senior team in 2025. Ogundu went on to make 19 league appearances and scored six goals, performances that quickly put him on the radar as one of the promising young forwards in the Turkish leagues.

After just one campaign, he secured another move, joining Alanyaspor ahead of the 2025-26 season. He wasted little time making an impression, delivering an eye-catching display in his first start against Besiktas. He followed that up by scoring and providing an assist in his second start for the club against Konyaspor, underlining his ability to influence games at a higher level.

Overall, this season, the versatile attacker has registered three goals and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions, a decent return that has now earned him a major career breakthrough with a switch to the Bundesliga.

Ogundu is set to join an Augsburg side currently sitting 11th in the German top flight with 22 points. The club are also enjoying a strong run of form, unbeaten in their last four matches, including a famous 2-1 away win over Bayern Munich, a result that ended the champions’ unbeaten start to the season and went down as one of the biggest shocks in Bundesliga history.

With the move expected to be completed very soon, Ogundu will now prepare for the next step in his development as he takes on one of the toughest leagues in world football.
