Aston Villa are keen on signing Nigeria international, Samuel Chukwueze, from Villarreal during the January transfer window, Boldsportsng reports.
Villa manager, Unai Emery, is hoping to strengthen his squad in order to compete for a place in Europe next season. The Spanish gaffer is looking to sign a let back and a forward player during the window. According to reports, Villa are planning to bring in left-back Alex Moreno from Real Betis as it is expected that either one of Lucas Digne or Ludwig Augustinsson would leave the club.
Chukwueze has been in superb form for Villarreal in the last couple of games scoring twice in his last three appearances for the Yellow Submarines in all competitions. He was also instrumental to Villarreal’s 2-1 LaLiga victory over champions Real Madrid on Saturday providing pace and trickery on the right flank.
The 23-year-old has been a subject of interest to top teams in Europe including Liverpool. Emery has identified the left-back and forward positions as those in the Villa squad that require bolstering in this window and is seeking reinforcements.
It would be difficult to snatch the Nigerian off the hands of Villarreal who inserted a €100m release clause in the contract he signed with the club in 2019. However, having stayed for two years since signing his last contract, his release clause has dropped to €80m, a fee that will be too much for the Premier League outfit.
The Super Eagles forward has scored seven goals while providing six assists in 27 games for Villarreal in all competitions this season.
