Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah have announced the appointment of Kelechi Iheanacho’s former boss Brendan Rodgers as their new head coach, Bold Sports reports.

Rodgers previously worked with Iheanacho during his time at Leicester City between 2019 and 2023, a period in which the pair won the FA Cup, Community Shield and the Championship. They also worked together earlier this year at Celtic, before Rodgers’ departure from the Scottish champions in October.

The experienced tactician replaces Michel Gonzalez, after the club reached an agreement to part ways with the Spaniard. Rodgers will be joined by assistant coaches John Kennedy and Jack Lyons, who will work alongside first-team coaches Álvaro Gómez Rey and Antolín Martín, as well as set-piece specialist Elliott Tyebo.

Commenting on the appointment, Al Qadsiah chief executive James Bisgrove described Rodgers’ arrival as a landmark moment for the club.

“Following a rigorous global recruitment process, we’re delighted to welcome Brendan to Al Khobar as our new head coach,” Bisgrove said. “This is a landmark moment for the club. The calibre of his experience and track record of winning reflects our ambition and long-term vision to establish Al Qadsiah as one of Asia’s leading clubs.”

He added: “Supported by our Board of Directors, an exciting and talented playing squad, world-class football staff and passionate supporters, we’re excited to enter this next phase of the club’s development.”
