Atalanta and Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, has been named the AIC Footballer of The Month of January beating countryman Victor Osimhen, Argentine Paulo Dybala and Italy’s Mattia Zaccagni to the award.
Lookman who has been a revelation for the Italian side this season scored five goals while providing two assists in five league games played in the month. He grabbed a brace and an assist for La Dea in their 3-3 draw against Juventus on January 22 having also grabbed a brace and an assist in their 8-2 thrashing of Salernitana.
Lookman received the highest number of votes to win the award despite impressive performances from other nominated players – Osimhen (5 goals and 1 assist in January), Mattia Zaccagni (3 goals and 1 assist) and Paulo Dybala (2 goals and 3 assists).
The 25-year-old Nigerian who joined Atalanta in the summer from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for €9m has been in incredible form for the Gian Piero Gasperini led side scoring 14 goals in 21 games across all competitions this season.
The Super Eagles forward will be hoping to continue his fine form for the club in February as they travel for a league match against Sassuolo on Saturday. Lookman was on target in Atalanta’s 2-1 win in the first half of the season.
