Newly invited Super Eagles striker George Ilenikhena has promised to give his best whenever he is given the opportunity, as he looks forward to making his Nigeria debut against Madagascar on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign in Group L against Madagascar before facing Guinea-Bissau four days later.
Ilenikhena, who plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, joined the national team camp on Tuesday and has taken part in two training sessions with the squad ahead of Friday’s encounter.
Speaking at the team’s media parley on Wednesday, the 20-year-old expressed his excitement at receiving his maiden call-up to the national team, adding that the warm welcome he has received reflects the strong team spirit within the squad.

“It is an honour to be here. I am proud and happy to be part of this big national team, and for me, it’s a big deal,” the former AS Monaco striker told Victor Modo in Uyo. “I am just 20 years old, and I am here with big and already accomplished players.
“The team spirit is very good. I just arrived yesterday (Tuesday), and I can see that everyone is together like a big family, and that’s very good.”
With several attacking options available to head coach Eric Chelle, including Akor Adams, Taiwo Awoniyi and Tolu Arokodare, following the absence of talismanic striker Victor Osimhen, Ilenikhena says he is ready to contribute whenever he is called upon.
“I am very excited. I will give my best, like always. I will give my best when the coach puts me on the pitch and help the team in the best way I can.”
The young striker is also confident that the Super Eagles will give everything to secure maximum points against Madagascar.
“We are ready and excited to play this first game, and we are preparing in the best way to win on Friday.”
