Sporting Lagos secured their first win of the 2026/27 campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in the first Lagos derby in over a decade.
The Tech Boys came into the encounter well-rested after their scheduled opening Lagos derby against Ikorodu City was postponed, and they wasted little time making their presence felt against their city rivals.
Sodiq Ayoade opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Aliyu Baba doubled Sporting Lagos’ advantage in the 59th minute. Valentine Ugwu then completed the rout with a 93rd-minute strike to seal a comfortable victory for the hosts.
The result marked Sporting Lagos’ first win of the season after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Doma United in their opening fixture.

Inter Lagos, meanwhile, are still searching for their first points of the campaign after three consecutive defeats to Shooting Stars, Doma United and now Sporting Lagos. They will look to bounce back when they face Enyimba International in their next fixture.
Sporting Lagos will aim to build on the impressive performance when they host Abia Warriors at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena next Sunday. They will then face Ikorodu City in their rescheduled derby on Wednesday, September 30, to round off the month.
The victory lifts Sporting Lagos to 10th position on the league table.
