Nigeria have retained 26th place in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released after the 2026 World Cup, but the Super Eagles have dropped to fourth in Africa following Egypt’s rise, Boldsports report.
The three-time African champions remain in the same global position they occupied before the tournament, while Egypt moved up five places to 24th and overtook Nigeria in the continental standings.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked side after climbing one place to sixth in the world, with Senegal second on the continent and Egypt now third.
The new ranking was heavily influenced by results from the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States. FIFA said 105 matches were considered during the ranking period, with 104 played at the tournament.

Nigeria missed the World Cup but played two friendlies against European opposition shortly before the competition.
Eric Chelle’s side drew 2-2 with Poland in Warsaw on June 3, with Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu scoring for the Super Eagles.
Moffi gave Nigeria the lead before Poland equalised shortly before half-time. Onuachu restored the advantage from the penalty spot, but the hosts struck late to earn a draw.
Nigeria then faced Portugal in Leiria in their final match before the World Cup, losing 2-1 despite a competitive performance against the European side.
While Nigeria remained 26th, several African teams made gains after the World Cup.
Egypt climbed to 24th, DR Congo moved five places to 41st, South Africa rose six spots to 54th and Ghana gained eight places to reach 65th.
Morocco also moved up to sixth after reaching the quarter-finals, while Tunisia suffered the biggest fall in the latest ranking, dropping 12 places to 57th.
Tunisia’s slide took them out of the global top 50 and reduced Africa’s representation in that group from nine teams to eight.
At the top of the ranking, world champions Spain replaced Argentina as the number-one team after beating the defending champions 1-0 after extra time in the final.
Argentina dropped to second, while Brazil moved up to fifth and Morocco climbed to sixth. Portugal fell two places to seventh after they were eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual champions Spain.
Mexico returned to the top 10 for the first time since March 2022 after moving four places to 10th, while Germany dropped to 12th.
Norway recorded the biggest rise, climbing 12 places to 19th after reaching the quarter-finals. Switzerland also moved up five places to 15th following their run to the last eight.
The next FIFA men’s world ranking will be published on October 7, 2026.
