Tahir Maigana has completed a move to Hungarian side ZTE, with the club confirming the signing of the highly-rated Flying Eagles winger on a three-year contract.
The Hungarian outfit announced the deal on Tuesday, revealing that the agreement includes an option to extend the 18-year-old’s stay by an additional year.
Maigana arrives at ZTE after an impressive run with Nigeria’s U-20 national team, where he established himself as one of the country’s brightest young prospects.
He featured in every match for the Flying Eagles at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and etched his name into the tournament’s history by converting the decisive penalty in Nigeria’s shootout victory over hosts Egypt to secure the bronze medal.

The winger carried that momentum into the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, starting every game as Nigeria advanced to the Round of 16 before bowing out to eventual runners-up Argentina.
Speaking after the signing, ZTE President of Sport Andrés Jornet expressed his delight at securing one of Africa’s emerging talents.
“Tahir Maigana is an exceptional talent who was one of the youngest players to feature for his country at the recent U-20 World Cup,” Jornet said.
“Several clubs were interested in him, but he chose the ZTE project because he felt it was the best next step for him at this stage of his career, something we are really proud of. We are convinced that he can continue his impressive development in this environment.”

Maigana also shared his excitement after completing the transfer, praising both the club and the city.
“The first thing that stood out to me was the kindness of the people living here and the people working at the club. I can already see that this is a very calm, peaceful city, where a player can concentrate exclusively on football,” he said.
“I would like to show on the pitch all the qualities that the club management has given me confidence in. I want to prove it. I have only heard good things about the team and the conditions, and since my arrival I can confirm that all this is true.”
The move marks the next chapter in Maigana’s promising career as he embarks on his first professional adventure in Europe. ZTE will be hoping the Nigerian youngster can continue his rapid development and make an impact in the Hungarian top flight.
