Sky Sports Broadcaster Curtis Davies has praised the impact of Frank Onyeka at Coventry City, describing the Super Eagles midfielder as a fantastic player for the Sky Blues.

Onyeka underlined his growing influence on Friday night, scoring his first goal for the club in spectacular fashion as Coventry secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over Derby County. The result pushed the Championship leaders 11 points clear of second-placed Millwall, moving them closer to promotion to the Premier League.

The Nigerian international, who joined Coventry on loan from Brentford in January, has made an immediate impact since his arrival. He has featured in nine matches, with the team recording eight wins and just one defeat during that run, strengthening their grip at the top of the table.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Derby, Davies praised Onyeka’s influence, particularly at a time when Coventry’s title charge appeared to be under threat: “He’s been fantastic. Eight Coventry appearances, seven wins. I think that says it all,” the former Hull City defender said.

He also spoke on Onyeka’s midfield partnership with Matt Grimes, noting how the pair have brought stability and balance to the team: “At a time when everybody thought that Coventry were starting to wobble, Middlesbrough had their upturn. But this guy comes in, sits alongside Matt Grimes and they complement each other so well. Absolutely fantastic player.”

Despite his standout performances, Onyeka remains focused on maintaining momentum as Coventry approach the final six games of the season. Speaking after the win over Derby, he stressed the importance of staying focused ahead of their next fixture against Hull City.

“We need to rest, we need to travel on Sunday, and we need to play against Hull. We need to be ready, we need to stay focused, and we need to win,” Onyeka said.
