In an entertaining Matchday 28 encounter in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Barau FC secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Plateau United at their home turf, the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Plateau united drew first blood early in the contest. In just the 4th minute, Vincent Temitope fired the visitors into the lead with a composed finish that left the visiting defence scrambling. As the first half wore on, Barau grew into the game and were level in the 37th minute.
The equaliser stemmed from a set-piece situation when Sunday Anthony delivered a dangerous free kick that cannoned off the woodwork.
Barau FC’s Henry Ezeonye was quickest to react, latching onto the rebound and drilling the ball into the net to make it 1–1.

With the game seemingly heading toward a draw, Barau found a late winner in the 87th minute. Stanley Ogambor produced a moment of quality in the box, finishing clinically to give the hosts the decisive 2–1 advantage and spark jubilant celebrations among the home support.
The result now sees Barau FC sitting 10th on the NPFL table with 37 points after 28 matches – a position that reflects their spirited fight this season.
Plateau United, despite the defeat, remain close on their heels in 12th place with 36 points, underscoring how tight the league standings have become heading into the closing rounds of the campaign.
