Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored for the seventh straight game while defender Chibuike Nwaiwu netted a brace as Trabzonspor secured a 3-1 win over Karagümrük on Friday to reduce the gap on Super Lig leaders Galatasaray to just four points.
Trabzonspor came into the match looking to continue their impressive run after losing just once in their previous nine games. They did so in style, with both Nigerian players leading the team to their 15th league win of the season.
The hosts got a deserved lead in the 20th minute through Onuachu, who rose highest to head in a brilliant cross from Ozan Tufan. However, the visitors leveled the score line just eight minutes later, with Daniele Verde finding the net to make it 1-1.
Few minutes into the second half, Nwaiwu restored Trabzonspor’s lead with an incredible flying header, netting his first ever goal for the club to make it 2-1. Just three minutes after, the defender’s evening got even better, as Onuachu assisted him to get another goal, making it 3-1.

The result ensures that Trabzonspor remain in the race for the Super Lig title. They still sit third with 51 points, but are now just four points behind leaders Galatasaray, who have a game in hand.
With victory secured, Trabzonspor will now turn their attention to the Turkish Cup where they face Basaksehir on Tuesday. For Karagümrük who remain rooted to the bottom of the league, their next game also comes in the cup when they face Fethiyespor.
