Tunisia midfielder Elyes Skhiri has cautioned his teammates against underestimating Uganda, insisting the Cranes are no pushovers ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group C opening clash at the Stade Annexe Olympique in Rabat.
Both teams will be aiming to start their AFCON 2025 campaign strongly, with all three points firmly in their sights.
The teams have met in AFCON three times previously, dating back to 1962. Tunisia won the bronze after the first encounter, defeated Uganda in the 1978 group stage, and secured a resounding 6–0 win in the 2000 edition. Now led by head coach Samy Trabelsi.
Samy Trabelsi (Tunisia Head Coach) said the competition brings both pride and pressure, emphasizing that his players are confident and ready, but aware of the strength of all opponents: “Every team is playing at a high level and can make things difficult.”

Midfielder Elyes Skhiri highlighted Tunisia’s unity and focus, adding that the squad must compete from the start and not take Uganda for granted: “Uganda are no pushovers.”
“The squad is in good shape and in condition to deliver a solid performance. We have been together in camp, working hard as a collective to gel and play well,” Skhiri said at the pre-match press conference.
“We know the disappointment of previous editions. Football is always evolving and we cannot rest on our laurels. We must compete to win and not take any team for granted. We have to start the tournament strong. Uganda are no pushovers and will be out to play for a win.”
Uganda, under coach Paul Put, arrive with belief and pride. Midfielder Khalid Aucho, speaking with captain-like authority, stressed their readiness and motivation to make their nation proud despite external doubts.
