18-year-old Nigerian midfielder, Daniel Daga, has been charged with sexual conduct without consent, his Norwegian club Molde has confirmed.
In a statement released by the club, Molde disclosed that the case was reported to the authorities at the end of April 2025, adding that both the player and the club have cooperated fully with the police throughout the investigation.
“Daniel has been informed of the charges and has been removed from training and matches for the time being. After the end of the season, Daniel traveled home in connection with the team’s planned vacation. Daniel and the club have agreed that he will return to Norway ahead of the legal proceedings,” the club announced.

Molde chairman Odd Ivar Moen described the situation as serious, stressing the club’s awareness of the impact such cases can have on everyone involved.
“We have previously experienced how demanding this type of case is for those involved, for the club and for everyone around us. This is a serious matter, and we take the charges that have been brought very seriously,” said Moen.
He further revealed that the club has been in contact with the woman’s legal representative in recognition of the burden the case entails: “We want to act respectfully and facilitate a fair process for those affected,” Moen added.
Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, confirmed that the Nigerian youngster does not admit guilt: “My client acknowledges that there was a sexual incident, but maintains that it was consensual. He believes that he has done nothing illegal and does not admit guilt. We are surprised that charges have been brought after the investigation that has been carried out,” Bolstad said.
She also emphasised that the case does not involve allegations of violence or threats: “It is also important to clarify that there is no suspicion of violence or threats. My client looks forward to having the case heard in court so that he can clear himself. He is very affected by the situation and the report.”

Concluding the club’s statement, Moen reiterated Molde’s stance on due process: “It is important for all parties that the case now receives a thorough and fair treatment in the legal system. Out of consideration for the upcoming legal process, we cannot provide any further comments on the details of the case beyond this press release.”
Daniel Daga joined Molde in January 2025 and has gone on to make appearances in both the Eliteserien and the UEFA Conference League. At international level, he represented Nigeria U-20 at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the Flying Eagles were knocked out in the round of 16 by Argentina.
