D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, has joined the team in Abuja as preparations for the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket shift into gear.
Fourteen players have already arrived in the Nigerian capital from various parts of the world ahead of the tournament, which tips off on July 25 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Despite starting preparations less than a week to the competition due to funding challenges, the team is expected to play two friendly matches against Kenya and Togo in a homecoming mini-tournament.

Notable players in camp include Murjanatu Musa, Amy Okonkwo, Nicole Enabosi, Elizabeth Balogun, Blessing Ejiofor, Pallas Kunaiyi, and Ezinne Kalu, among others.
Nigeria is drawn in Group D alongside Mozambique and Rwanda. The D’Tigress will open their campaign against Rwanda on July 26, before facing Mozambique on July 28.
The team is scheduled to depart for the Ivory Coast next week. Wakama is an assistant coach at WNBA team Chicago Sky.
