Nigerian athletes delivered standout performances across U.S. college championships over the weekend, with Prosper Ekporere and Adaobi Tabugbo claiming hurdle titles, and Ramat Jimoh smashing her personal best to win bronze in the women’s 800m.
Ekporere clocked 13.66s to win the men’s 110m hurdles title at the WAC Championships in Texas—his first-ever conference crown. He held off teammate Francisco Marques (13.68s) and Caterrin Cox (13.77s) in a tightly contested final.
In Kansas, Adaobi Tabugbo ran a lifetime best of 12.87s to win the Big 12 women’s 100m hurdles title, breaking the 13-second barrier in wind-legal conditions (0.9m/s) for the first time. Her teammate and fellow Nigerian Ese Awusa also competed, finishing 8th in 13.56s.

Over in the SEC, Ramat Jimoh ran a brilliant race to place third in the women’s 800m final, clocking a huge PB of 2:03.64. The 19-year-old improved her time by nearly a full second behind winner Michaela Rose (1:59.75) and Sanu Jallow (2:01.56).
