Lazio are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Czech club Viktoria Plzen for the transfer of Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi.

The two clubs recently faced each other in the Europa League Round of 16, with Lazio progressing after a 3-2 aggregate victory. Durosinmi made an impression in the first leg, scoring with a powerful header.

According to Italian reports, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani initiated talks for the 22-year-old forward during their European encounter. La Repubblica (via LazioSpace) claims that negotiations are now at an advanced stage, with the Serie A side expected to pay between €8 million and €9 million for his services.

Durosinmi is seen as a potential backup for Taty Castellanos, who has been crucial for Lazio this season. Castellanos recently returned from injury only to suffer another setback, leaving manager Marco Baroni short of attacking options. With Tijjani Noslin, Boulaye Dia, and Loum Tchaouna struggling to fill the void, Durosinmi could provide much-needed depth in attack.

The Lagos-born striker joined Viktoria Plzen in 2023 and has scored five goals and provided two assists in 12 appearances this season. Despite his performances, he is yet to make his debut for the Super Eagles, with Nigeria’s attacking options including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface keeping him out of the squad.

If the €8-9 million transfer is completed, Durosinmi will become the latest Nigerian to feature in Serie A, following in the footsteps of players like Osimhen, who excelled at Napoli, winning the Serie A and Lookman who won the Europa League with Atalanta.
