2026 FIFA World Cup: Burna Boy, Shakira to headline Mexico City opening ceremony

Burna Boy and Shakira will join a star-studded lineup set to perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony scheduled to be held in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June.

The Afrobeat star and the Colombian pop icon will perform ‘Dai Dai’, the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song in support of FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

The duo will set the stage for what FIFA describes as an “unforgettable tournament opener.” Other stars set to perform during the event include Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Tyla.

The opening ceremony at Mexico City Stadium will get underway 90 minutes before the first match of the competition between Mexico and South Africa. It will mark the first of three opening ceremonies that will follow across Canada and the United States.

Asides from performing at the opening ceremony, Burna Boy is also one of four Nigerian artistes featured on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup album.

He is joined by Davido, Rema and Ayra Starr. Davido is featured on “No place like home” with Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado, Rema is on “Goals” with Lisa and Anitta while Ayra Starr is on “Show me” with Latto.
