Zambia and Comoros will meet at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations for the first time when they clash in Group A on Friday, with both sides looking to secure their maiden victory of the tournament. The second-round fixture will be played at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca at 6:30 pm.
Although this is their first encounter at the AFCON finals, the two COSAFA nations are no strangers to each other. They have faced off seven times in international football, with Zambia holding a narrow historical edge, four wins to Comoros’ two, alongside one draw.
Zambia dominated the early meetings between the teams, winning the first four encounters across 2012 AFCON qualifying, the 2023 AFCON qualifiers at home, and the 2023 COSAFA Cup. However, the balance has shifted in recent years, suggesting a far tighter contest than past records might imply.

The sides shared a 1-1 draw in Comoros during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in September 2023, before Comoros went on to claim back-to-back 1-0 victories at the 2024 and 2025 COSAFA Cups. Those narrow wins underline Comoros’ growing confidence against a team that once held clear supremacy.
Zambia have historically progressed ahead of Comoros when both were paired in AFCON qualification, doing so in the runs to the 2012 and 2023 tournaments. But goals have recently been harder to come by against this opponent, with the Chipolopolo failing to score in their last two meetings after netting in the first five.

Comoros, meanwhile, have found a way to trouble Zambia’s defence consistently, scoring in six of their seven encounters and in each of the last six.
With both teams still searching for their first win in Morocco, their meeting carries added significance, a chance not only to revive their campaigns but also to tilt an increasingly competitive rivalry in their favour.
