Victor Osimhen has declared that his goal, and that of Galatasaray, is to make a bold statement in this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian striker returned to Galatasaray in the summer after a successful season-long loan spell during which he helped the Turkish giants secure two domestic trophies. Following his big-money permanent move, Osimhen has now set his sights on leading the club to new heights on the European stage.

True to his promise to the club’s president, the Super Eagles star has made an instant impact on his return.

After missing Galatasaray’s 5–1 opening defeat to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt through injury, Osimhen marked his comeback with a decisive goal in a famous 1–0 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool. He then followed that up with a brace in a 3–1 win against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.

Galatasaray now prepares for their Matchday 4 clash against Ajax, who have yet to record a point in three games, having lost to Inter Milan, Olympique Marseille, and Chelsea, scored just once, and conceded 11 times.

Speaking to UEFA about his ambitions, Osimhen reiterated his determination to help Galatasaray announce themselves among Europe’s elite.

“I spoke with the president when I arrived, and we want to really make a statement in the Champions League,” the 26-year-old said. “We want to show that in Türkiye, we are the team the whole world will recognize this year because we did something amazing in Europe.”

“We’ve dominated the league for years and will continue to do so, but now it’s time to make a statement on the biggest stage – the Champions League. It’s a beautiful competition, and we want to leave our mark,” Osimhen added.
