Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has announced a final 23-man squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa in September.
First choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali makes the final cut despite an injury which he sustained while in action for his club Chippa United. He is joined by Amas Obasogie and Adeleye Abebayo while 15-year-old talent Emmanuel Harcout has been dropped.
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong leads the defense which includes Fulham star Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Agu and Benjamin Frederick.
Chrisantus Uche who has been linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers is called up in midfield joining regulars such as Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Raphael Onyedika.
For the attack, Ademola Lookman who is currently in a transfer limbo after a failed move to Inter Milan makes the cut and is joined by Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, Cyriel Dessers, Tolu Arokodare and star striker Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria currently sit fourth in their World Cup qualifying group with seven points after a string of disappointing results. The team will thus be desperate for victories in both games to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo before traveling to face South Africa who currently top the qualifying group with 13 points.
