Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has successfully undergone knee surgery following an injury sustained during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League encounter against VfB Stuttgart. The Turkish champions confirmed the development in a fresh medical update on Saturday, November 7, Bold sports reports.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Galatasaray. He has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. His recent contributions include a brace against Fenerbahçe in their 2-1 derby victory on October 26. He also scored in the 4-0 triumph over Konyaspor four days later.

Galatasaray confirm successful operation

Osimhen sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Stuttgart on November 3. He completed the entire match despite the problem.

Subsequent medical examinations revealed a loose fragment in his left knee. The findings prompted the club’s medical team to recommend surgery.

Galatasaray confirmed that club doctor Yener İnce performed the operation at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital.

In its latest statement, the club provided details about the striker’s recovery process.

“Our player Victor Osimhen underwent successful surgery today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, performed by our club doctor, Yener İnce.

“Our player’s condition will be monitored through daily assessments, and his treatment will continue under the supervision of our club’s medical team. We wish our player Victor Osimhen a speedy recovery and hope he gets well as soon as possible.”

Super Eagles face fresh attacking concerns

The successful operation offers an encouraging development. However, Osimhen’s absence presents another challenge for Galatasaray.

The Nigerian forward is expected to miss upcoming league fixtures against Amedspor and Samsunspor. Reports also suggest that his rehabilitation could take approximately three weeks. However, Galatasaray have not announced an official return date.

Osimhen’s injury also creates concerns for Nigeria ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle had hoped to include the prolific striker for both encounters. Nigeria are scheduled to face Tanzania on November 13 and 17.

For now, Galatasaray will continue monitoring Osimhen’s recovery through daily medical assessments. His return will depend on his progress during rehabilitation.
