Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for September after his impressive performance for Bayer Leverkusen. It is the second time in a row for the Nigeria international.
The summer signing in September beat the likes of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simmons, and TSG Hoffenheim’s Maximillian Beier for the award.
To win the award, Boniface led in votes from fans, team captains, and a panel of pundits. 40% of the votes came from fans while pundits and 18 Bundesliga captains both have 30% each of the votes.

Boniface scored four goals while providing one assist in four league games in September. Simmons scored two goals while providing two assists in September while Beier scored three goals in four games in September with three of the goals coming in three consecutive games.
To qualify for the Rookie of the Month award, “a player must be younger than 23 on Matchday 1 of the new season and cannot have started a Bundesliga match in any previous campaign.”
“The Nigerian had 25 shots on goal in September, which was by far the most of any player in the division. Four goals came as a result, which placed him behind only Harry Kane (five) and Serhou Guirassy (seven) in the month’s standings.”
Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has also hailed the player’s physicality, toughness and athleticism “Victor can deal with two centre-backs. He’s a big problem for opponents.”
