Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe was named Player of the Match as Benfica earned their first point of the 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against FC Twente on Wednesday night.
Deployed in a defensive role, the 24-year-old Nigerian delivered a commanding performance at the back, displaying composure and intelligence throughout the encounter.
Ucheibe completed 89% of her passes, won two ground duels, made one tackle, one block, five clearances, two headed clearances, and registered six recoveries, earning deserved praise for her all-round contribution.
Despite Benfica taking the lead in the 62nd minute through Cristina Martin-Prieto, the Portuguese champions had to settle for a draw as Lynn Groenewegen leveled the scoreline in the 69th minute, a result that will be viewed positively after two defeats in the first two games.
Benfica had lost 2-1 to Juventus in their opening game and then suffered a 2-0 defeat to defending champions Arsenal on home soil, marking a disappointing start to their campaign.
However, Wednesday’s result lifts Benfica to 15th in the league phase standings, while Twente move up to 13th after securing their second draw in three matches.
Ucheibe, who has featured in all three of Benfica’s Champions League fixtures so far, will be hoping to help her side build on this momentum when they face Paris FC in their next match on Wednesday, November 19.
