South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis retained his middleweight title, beating Nigeria’s Isreal Adesanya via submission due to a rear naked choke at UFC 305 in Perth Australia on Sunday (Nigerian time).
The fight dubbed ‘the battle for the true African’ saw the fighters with distinctive fighting styles spring into action as they looked to outshine each other. The win is du Plessis’ first title defense after claiming the belt against American Sean Strickland in January.
Adesanya’s high leg kick in the first round left a cut on du Plessis’ head while the South African had a lot of success with his fast leg kicks and punches.

Du Plessis secured three takedowns over Adesanya in round 2. While the Nigerian recovered well after the first takedown, he found it difficult to untangle himself during the other takedowns.
Both fighters went blow for blow in the tired round with Adesanya coming tops.
