Atalanta are reportedly set to impose a hefty fine on Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman after he left the team’s camp without notifying the club.

Tensions between the player and the Serie A side have escalated following Atalanta’s refusal to accept Inter Milan’s €42 million offer plus €3 million in add-ons for the Nigeria international. The Bergamo outfit have made it clear they will only sanction his departure for €50 million.

Lookman, who had submitted a transfer request, claimed there was a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave if a suitable offer arrived. He was reportedly frustrated by Atalanta’s repeated rejection of Inter’s bids. The club, however, maintain that the agreement applied only to offers from foreign clubs, not domestic rivals.

In an apparent bid to force a move, Lookman left the camp and extended his summer break, missing key training sessions as Atalanta continue preparations for the 2025/26 season.

The standoff now appears set to worsen, with the club preparing legal action and a substantial fine against the 27-year-old. According to Football Italia, the Percassi family and Atalanta’s hierarchy view Lookman’s conduct as wholly unacceptable, regardless of his reasons.

For now, the transfer impasse remains, with Atalanta holding out for an improved offer, while Inter wait for the club to accept their €45 million bid, including add-ons.
