Tobi Amusan breezes to ‘record equaling’ African Games gold

Tobi Amusan continued her dominance of the African scene, winning her third-straight African Games gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles in Accra on Wednesday.

Amusan who had earlier won the event 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo and 2019 in Rabat, Morocco, joined Vivian Chukwuemeka to become only the second Nigerian to win a third-straight track and field African Games gold medal.

Amusan who came into the race as the huge favourite overcame an early scare after earlier beating the gun to comfortably win the race in 12.89s (-2.1).

Madagascar’s Sidonie Fiadanantsoa finished second in 13.19s, while Zimbabwe’s Ashley Tinashe Kamangirirain won the bronze medal in 13.59s.

The only other Nigerian athlete in the fce, Faith Osamuyi, narrowly missed out on a podium, finishing fourth in 13.77s.
