The Super Falcons of Nigeria have clinched a historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.

Captain Ghizlane Chebbak and forward Sanaâ Mssoudy put Morocco in control with a 2-0 lead, but a spirited Nigerian side responded through Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini to complete a stunning turnaround.

Both sides started the match with attacking intent, but it was Morocco who broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, as Chebbak unleashed a powerful strike from distance to put the home side ahead.

Nigeria’s troubles deepened just before the half-hour mark when Mssoudy doubled Morocco’s advantage, beating defender Michelle Alozie and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.

Despite the early setback, the Super Falcons regained their composure and pushed forward with increased urgency, threatening from set-pieces, though Morocco held firm to preserve their lead going into the break.

Nigeria emerged from the interval with renewed purpose and were handed a lifeline in the 63rd minute when a VAR review awarded them a penalty. Okoronkwo stepped up and coolly dispatched the spot-kick, halving the deficit.

Momentum swung further in Nigeria’s favour moments later, as Okoronkwo weaved through the Moroccan defence and laid off a precise pass for Ijamilusi to slot home the equaliser.

The hosts appeared to have won a penalty following a handball incident, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review, much to the relief of the Nigerian bench.

Soon after the VAR drama, Okoronkwo turned provider once more, delivering a pinpoint cross that was met by Echegini, who made no mistake to complete Nigeria’s comeback and secure the victory for the Super Falcons in thrilling fashion.
