Denmark’s Anders Lind and Japan’s Honoka Hashimoto were crowned singles champions at the 2025 WTT Contender Lagos, delivering dominant performances on a thrilling finals day at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
Lind, who fell short at last year’s edition, returned with purpose and power to claim the men’s singles title on Saturday. He defeated Croatia’s Tomislav Pucar 4-1 (11-4, 13-11, 10-12, 13-11, 11-7) in a pulsating final that had the Lagos crowd on their feet.
The Dane, known for his aggressive style, showcased clean forehand winners and incredible footwork to outclass Pucar and seal his maiden Contender crown in Lagos.
In the women’s singles final, Honoka Hashimoto ended Sreeja Akula’s title defence in style, beating the Indian star 4-1 (11-7, 11-3, 11-4, 9-11, 13-11) with her trademark defensive mastery.
Hashimoto frustrated Akula with relentless returns and smart angles, capping off a near-perfect week in Lagos with the gold medal.

In the doubles events, South Korea’s Kim Nayeong and Ryu Hanna edged a spirited Egyptian pair of Hana Goda and Dina Meshref in a nail-biting women’s doubles final, winning 3-2 to silence the vociferous Egyptian supporters in the stands.
India, meanwhile, held on to their men’s doubles crown, but with a fresh combination. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Akash Pal produced a dominant 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-9) win over France’s Leo De Nodrest and Jules Rolland to underline their country’s growing table tennis strength.
