VfB Stuttgart has entered the competition to sign Nigerian striker Gift Orban. The 22-year-old could leave financially troubled Olympique Lyon as early as January.
Since his high-profile move from Gent to Lyon last winter, Orban has struggled to replicate his Belgian Pro League form. Lyon’s recent financial woes, including a potential Ligue 1 relegation and transfer ban, have further complicated matters.
While a summer transfer to Trabzonspor almost materialized, Lyon is now likely to offload Orban to generate much-needed funds.
The striker has scored only five goals in 21 appearances for the French club and was recently dropped from their Europa League squad to face Qarabag in Baku on Thursday.
Stuttgart will face competition from Turkish giants Trabzonspor, Galatasaray, and Besiktas. Orban, eager for a fresh start and a return to form, is open to a move. The Nigerian is currently valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt.
