In a semifinal match where he was hailed as a hero in Nigeria, Nwabali found himself somewhat cast as a villain in South Africa after thwarting two penalty kicks, denying the Bafana Bafana a place in the final.

Despite some concerns among Nigerian fans about the possibility of Nwabali facing a hostile reception in South Africa, the opposite occurred when he arrived at the O.R. Tambo International Airport, where passionate supporters eagerly approached him for photos, especially those rooting for Chippa United, his club.

Chippa United also shared a photo of Nwabali being celebrated upon his return from Nigeria, captioning it with “He’s Back.”

Following his impressive performances at the AFCON, Nwabali’s name has been linked with several clubs in Europe, while rumors abound that numerous top South African clubs are keen on acquiring him from his current team.
