Sporting Lagos returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Tuesday.
Pascal Onyekachi Durognor scored the decisive goal in the 9th minute to end the club’s three-game winless streak.
Sporting started the game brightly and deservedly took the lead early the game to calm the nerves of their teeming supporters. The hosts would be disappointed for failing to convert the several chances they had.
Sunshine were by far the better side in the second half but despite their dominance, they failed to find the back of the net.
Goal scorer and Man of The Match, Onyekachi said he was excited with the goal and the opportunity to help his team return to winning ways.
“We are excited with this result and it will boost our morale ahead of the next game against Katsina United,” Onyekachi told Boldsportsng.com.
“We were disappointed with the result of our last home game, and it really affected our morale. We had to put in extra work and I have to applaud my teammates for holding on till the end despite the constant attacks from Sunshine Stars.”
The win sees Sporting Lagos move to 11th on the league table.
