Sporting Lagos began their journey back to the topflight on a bright note, securing a confident 3–1 victory over Osun United in their 2025/26 Nigeria National League season opener at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. Matchday One also saw Inter Lagos claim the only away win of the weekend.

The Tech Boys wasted no time delighting their supporters, as Aondona Adeede opened the scoring just four minutes into the match. Kelvin Unenge doubled Sporting Lagos’ lead in the 21st minute, but the visitors responded quickly, with Tomiwa Awojobi reducing the deficit in the 25th minute.

Sporting Lagos went into halftime with a 2–1 advantage and resumed the second half with the same intensity. Samuel Victor sealed the win for the hosts in the 65th minute, putting the result beyond doubt. Despite further attempts to extend their lead, the match ended 3–1.

The victory marks an encouraging start for Sporting Lagos, who are targeting a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League after spending the 2024/25 season in the lower division.

Up next is a Lagos derby as Sporting Lagos take on First Bank FC, who suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Godswill Akpabio FC on Saturday.

At the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Inter Lagos clinched the only away victory of Matchday One, edging hosts Gateway FC thanks to Saturday Okon’s decisive 67th-minute goal, silencing the home crowd.

The win provides a significant morale boost for Inter Lagos as they prepare to host Smart City in another Lagos derby in their Matchday Two fixture.

In other results, Godswill Akpabio FC recorded the biggest win of Matchday One with a commanding 5–1 triumph over First Bank FC. Crown FC defeated Heartland FC 3–0, Bichi First outclassed Yobe Desert Stars 3–0, while Beyond Limits were awarded three points and three goals following Dakkada FC’s failure to honour their fixture.

Additional results saw Abia Comets beat Smart City 2–0, Jigsaw Golden Stars edge Kebbi FC 2–1, Lobi Stars defeat City FC Abuja 1–0, Adel FC overcome Sunshine Stars 1–0, and Roma United secure a 1–0 victory over Kada Stars.
