New Fulham signing Emile Smith Rowe has expressed his gratitude to Nigerian teammates Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, dedicating his first goal for the club to the duo.
The former Arsenal midfielder made his Fulham debut in a 2-1 pre-season loss to Sevilla, scoring on his first appearance for the Cottagers.
In a heartwarming post-match interview, Smith Rowe credited Iwobi and Bassey for helping him settle into his new surroundings. “I think you two, I think you’ve welcomed me into the team the most,” Smith-Rowe said.
Known as the ‘Init boys‘, Iwobi and Bassey couldn’t resist celebrating with their teammate and even taking over the interview to ask their own questions.
Iwobi and Smith Rowe know each other during their time at Arsenal. The Nigeria international was the player who was substituted off for the Englishman’s debut for Arsenal in 2018 against Vorskla Poltava in the UEFA Europa League game.
