The Lagos State Government also expressed its commitment to delivering a memorable experience. Football leaders, stakeholders and visitors from across Africa and beyond are expected to attend the event.

The coordination aims to ensure the successful delivery of two major events in Nigeria. Lagos will host the 2026 CAF Awards on 7 December, while Abuja will host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly on 21 November.

Both events will bring key figures in African football to Nigeria. The preparations involve cooperation between football authorities and government representatives.

Tinubu approved Nigeria’s hosting rights

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Nigeria’s hosting of the two events in May 2026.

He gave the approval during a meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Kenya.

The approval paved the way for Nigeria to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.

With the Lagos State Government pledging its support, preparations continue for the awards ceremony scheduled for 7 December.
