Nigeria Premier Football League side Rivers United will be aiming for a favourable result on the road when they face debutants Les Aigles du Congo (Jeunesse Sportive de Kinshasa) in their 2025/26 CAF Champions League preliminary round opener at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, DR Congo.
The Nigerian side, who have become regulars on the continent in recent years, will be banking on their experience to shine through. Rivers United reached the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2022/23 season and are looking to replicate, if not surpass, that run in Africa’s premier club competition.

Formed as recently as 2023, Jeunesse Sportive de Kinshasa stunned observers by winning the 2024/25 Illicocash Ligue 1 title, earning their first-ever ticket to the CAF Champions League.
Rivers United touched down in Kinshasa on Wednesday, focused on securing a positive first-leg result before hosting the decisive return fixture in Uyo next week.
Confidence will not be lacking in the camp, as the Pride of Rivers have started the 2025/26 NPFL season strongly, going unbeaten with two wins and two draws from their opening four matches.
