Rivers United climbed to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after securing an emphatic 3-0 victory over El Kanemi Warriors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday, Bold Sports reports.
The Pride of Rivers went into the encounter determined to respond after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bayelsa United in their previous outing. El Kanemi Warriors, on the other hand, arrived in Port Harcourt buoyed by a 2-0 triumph over Abia Warriors and hopeful of building momentum.
Rivers United wasted little time asserting their dominance, taking the lead in the ninth minute when Wisdom Samuel found the back of the net to hand Finidi George’s men a dream start.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute as Chijioke Mbaoma converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 and put the contest firmly in their control. Wisdom Samuel later completed his brace in the closing stages, sealing a comprehensive win for the home side.
The result lifts Rivers United to 49 points from 26 matches, moving them two points clear of Enugu Rangers, who sit second on 47 points despite having played two more games than Finidi George’s team.
Rivers United will now turn their focus to another home fixture against Bendel Insurance on Sunday, March 8. Meanwhile, El Kanemi Warriors will seek a return to winning ways when they travel to face Wikki Tourist on the same day.
