This Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash, framed as a showdown between a master and apprentice, delivered a thrilling contest with Rivers United ultimately coming out on top.
Rivers United took control early on, with Ubong Friday breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute. His clinical finish that gave the home side a lead that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Enyimba, who came into the match unbeaten in the 2024/25 season, struggled to find their rhythm as Rivers United pressed high and dictated play.
Despite Enyimba’s attempts to claw their way back into the game, Rivers United’s defense, led by their experienced backline, stood firm, denying their opponents any clear scoring opportunities. In the 87th minute, Jackson Seiyefa scored the second goal to seal the victory for Rivers United. The win not only secured three valuable points but also ended Enyimba’s unbeaten run in all competitions this season.
