Remo Stars snapped their three-game winless streak with a commanding 2-0 victory over 10-man Shooting Stars in Ikenne during a Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 14 fixture, reclaiming their spot at the top of the table.
The Sky Blue had relinquished their position over the weekend following a 2-0 defeat to Katsina United. A win was crucial not only to restore confidence but also to leapfrog title rivals Rivers United, who faced a tricky away match against Sunshine Stars.
Remo Stars dominated the first half, creating numerous opportunities. Their advantage grew when Shooting Stars’ Taiwo Murtala received a red card in the 44th minute.
Moments later, the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty, which Sikiru Alimi converted to put them ahead just before halftime.
The lead was doubled in the 67th minute through Olamilekan Adedayo, sealing a comprehensive performance. With a numerical disadvantage, Gbenga Ogunbote’s Shooting Stars struggled to contain the relentless hosts.
The victory saw Remo Stars return to the summit after Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw at the Dina Dipo Stadium in Ijebu.
