Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has stressed the significance of their upcoming clash with reigning champions Enugu Rangers in the matchday four of the Nigeria Premier Football League in Ikenne tomorrow (Sunday).
Ogunmodede who was speaking ahead of the game, acknowledged the tough task ahead but expressed confidence in his team’s preparation.
“We’ll be playing against a tough opponent,” Ogunmodede said, noting the pedigree of Rangers. “They’re the league champions from last season and are just returning from a continental game. They won their last away game, what that means is that they’re full of confidence.”
Enugu Rangers have started their title defense strongly by remaining unbeaten and yet to concede a goal this season, present a daunting challenge for Remo Stars. They defeated Ikorodu United 1-0 away from home after a shocking goalless draw against newly-promoted Elkanemi Warriors in the season opener.
Ogunmodede highlighted their form, saying, “They’re yet to concede this season and they are also battle ready to defend their title.”
Despite the strength of their opponents, Ogunmodede is determined to lead his side into the match with a positive mindset and a clear game plan. “Nonetheless, we’ll go into the game with the right approach and try and get the maximum points to complement our good start to the season,” he added.
Remo Stars, finished second behind Rangers last season and will be eager to make a statement as the campaign unfolds.
When both sides met last season, Remo Stars came from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory at Ikenne while Rangers claimed a lone goal victory in the reverse fixture.
Remo Stars are also yet to concede this season, and sit top of the NPFL league table with a 1-0 home win over Sunshine Stars sandwiched between 2-0 away victories over Abia Warriors and Kano Pillars.
