In-form Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is closing in on more milestones as Trabzonspor prepare to host Rizespor in Saturday’s Turkish Super Lig encounter at Papara Park, Bold Sports reports.
The towering forward has been in sensational form in recent weeks, scoring in seven consecutive league matches and nine straight games across all competitions. His remarkable run already earned him a place in the club’s history books as the foreign player with the longest scoring streak for Trabzonspor.
The 31-year-old currently leads the league’s scoring chart with 20 goals in 22 appearances and has added two more goals in the Turkish Cup, taking his tally for the season to 22.

However, Onuachu is now on the brink of another landmark. Having scored 17 goals during his first spell with Trabzonspor, he now sits just one goal shy of reaching 40 goals for the club.
A goal against Rizespor would see him become only the third foreign player to surpass that mark, joining fellow Nigerian Anthony Nwakaeme, who scored 51 goals, and Georgian legend Shota Arveladze, who leads the list with 85.
There could be even more history on the horizon before the season ends. If Onuachu scores five more goals in the remaining nine league matches, he will surpass Alexander Sørloth’s tally and equal Arveladze’s record for the most goals by a foreign player in a single league season for Trabzonspor.

Arveladze remains the benchmark after scoring 25 goals in the 1995/96 campaign, while Sørloth netted 24 during the 2019/20 season.
Beyond individual accolades, Saturday’s match carries significant implications in the title race. A victory for Trabzonspor would see them move level on points with second-placed Fenerbahçe, who suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Karagümrük on Friday.
Rizespor, however, arrive in strong form themselves. The visitors have won their last three league matches without conceding and are unbeaten in four games, having suffered just two defeats in the league since the start of 2026.
Asides Onuachu, Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu could return to the starting lineup for Trabzonspor after recovering from a thigh injury to make a cameo in the club’s previous league outing. Rizespor midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin is also expected to be in action.
