Enugu Rangers extended their fine run of form with a 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, while Kano Pillars pipped Kwara United 1-0 in Kano on Wednesday.
The Flying Antelopes, fresh from a 1-0 home win over Katsina United, knew a victory would push them into the top half of the table, and they delivered with two first-half strikes from Chidozie Iwundu and veteran forward Godwin Obaje.
Iwundu opened the scoring in the 14th minute, settling the nerves of the home supporters, before Obaje doubled the lead in the 33rd minute. Despite Abia Warriors’ attempts to fight back, Rangers’ backline held firm to secure all three points.
The win lifts Rangers to fifth place on the log with 11 points from seven matches, boasting three wins, two draws, and two losses.
Elsewhere, at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, a stunning 22nd-minute long-range effort from veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali handed Kano Pillars a 1-0 win over Kwara United. The result gave Pillars their second win of the season and lifted them out of the relegation zone, while condemning the Harmony Boys to a third defeat of the campaign.
Kwara United, still searching for their first away victory of the season, returned to Ilorin empty-handed, while Pillars and their fans celebrated a much-needed triumph.

After the match, Kano Pillars Technical Adviser Evans Ogenyi expressed satisfaction with the result, though he admitted his side could have been more clinical.
“No team is a pushover in the NPFL. Kwara just came off the continent and also lost at home, so we knew they’d come here with a lot of anger. We had to prepare well because our position wasn’t good either. The boys encouraged themselves and fought hard to get this win.
“We intended to score more goals, but anxiety crept in and we wasted too many chances. Still, we’ll take the positives and work on them. This victory gives us momentum, and we’ll build on it going forward.”
