Rangers join race to sign Bordeaux’s Josh Maja

Glasgow Rangers are keen to sign Nigerian striker Josh Maja in the summer after his impressive performance for French Ligue 2 side Bordeaux during the 2022/23 league season.

The one-cap Super Eagles player has been in explosive form this season scoring 16 goals in 34 league games for Les Girondins as they hope to return to the topflight of French football having been relegated last season.

Bordeaux is currently second on the league table with 65 points from 34 games, four matches till the end of the season and three points ahead of third-placed Metz.

His performance has seen him draw interest from high-profile European clubs such as Almeria and Real Valladolid, however, according to reports from Scotland, Glasgow Rangers are throwing their hat into the transfer battle for the Nigerian.

Rangers will be looking to sign the Nigerian as replacement for Ryan Kent and highly influential forward Alfredo Morelos who are expected to leave the Ibrox Stadium at the end of the season.

Maja is aware of interests from potential suitors but the Nigerian who had previously been loaned to Fulham in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season says his goal is to help Bordeaux return to the topflight at the end of the season.

“For me the most important thing is to help the club find the place that suits it in Ligue 1. I am essentially focused on this objective, so if we reach the rise, it is at this moment- there that I would be fully happy and satisfied.”
