Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has continued his fine form in the Turkish Super Lig finding the back of the net for a third consecutive game as hosts Trabzonspor pipped Pendikspor 2-1 on Saturday at the 40,000-capacity Papara Park.
The lanky Nigeria international put the hosts in front in the third minute to calm the nerves and help them settle into the game while midfielder Tasos Bakasetas in the 27th minute made it 2-0.
Endri Cekici cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 36th minute but despite a red card to Trabzonspor’s Batista Mendy in the 72nd minute, the Trabzonspor held on for their fourth win of the season and went third on the log.
Reacting to his goal and the win, Onuachu, on loan from English side Southampton said he was excited with his performance and that of the team.
“We played well in the first half. Unfortunately, we received an unexpected red card in the second half. The important thing is that we were able to display the team spirit that brought the victory today and get the three points,” Onuachu told the press after the game.

“If you come to a team like Trabzonspor, of course, you try to help your team. You try to make your fans happy. I am very happy for my team and my individual performance.”
Turkish manager Fuat Capa has recently tipped the Nigeria international to score at least 20 goals this season. Still, the striker said although he’d love to score in every game he features in, he’s never set a target for himself.
“I have never set a goal in any team I have played for. Of course, I have always said this; I will try to score goals. But I have not set any number or goal for myself. I will focus on match by match and try to score goals,” he added.
