Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu will be aiming to win their first trophy with Trabzonspor when they take on Konyaspor in Friday’s Turkish Cup final, while veteran forward Anthony Nwakaeme prepares for his final appearance for the club.

Onuachu joined Trabzonspor on a permanent transfer in June 2025, and has proven to be one of the club’s best signings in recent years.

The Super Eagles striker scored 22 goals in the Super Lig, winning the league’s 2025/26 golden boot. He has also scored two goals in the cup, leading his team to the final.

Similarly, Nwaiwu has been impressive since joining Trabzonspor from Wolfsberger in January. The defender has made 20 appearances for the Turkish side already, recording three goals and one assist.

Trabzonspor’s final with Konyaspor provides both Nigerian players with the opportunity to wrap up a very positive season with silverware.

It would also mark the end of an era as Anthony Nwakaeme is set to play his final game for the club. The 37-year-old rejoined Trabzonspor in July 2024, and his current contract will expire next month.

The Nigerian veteran forward previously played for Trabzonspor from 2018 to 2022, where he was a key figure in their 2021/22 Super Lig title-winning campaign. He also won the Turkish Cup with the club in the 2019/20 season, and the Turkish Super Cup in the 2020/21 campaign.

Overall, across his two spells with Trabzonspor, Anthony Nwakaeme made 193 appearances, recording 50 goals and 48 assists.

The Turkish Cup final will be the third fixture between Trabzonspor and Konyaspor this season. Onuachu scored twice in the first game, helping Trabzonspor secure a 3-1 win. However, Konyaspor won the most recent match, claiming a 2-1 victory last month.
