Paul Onuachu grabs brace, bags 16th league goal in Belgium

Nigeria striker, Paul Onuachu, grabbed a brace to lead Genk to a 4-0 thrashing of RFC Seraing at the Cegeka Arenain the Belgian Jupiler League on Sunday as they established a six point lead at the top of the table over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise with a game in hand. 

Onuachu who is highly sought after by Europa League defending champions Eintracht Frankfurt scored the opener from the penalty spot in the seventh minute to give the hosts the lead, while Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye made it 2-0 in the 14th minute. Despite intense pressure to score more in the half, the log leaders went into the half time break with a two-goal cushion. 

Genk in the second half did not relent in the quest to get more goals and were rewarded with a third in the 60th minute. Tresor Ndayishimiye provided the assist for Onuachu who grabbed his brace while midfielder Joseph Paintsil made it 4-0 in the four minutes later. 

The brace takes Onuachu’s goals tally of the season to 16 in 19 league games as he hopes to help the team win a fifth league title. They last lifted the trophy in the 2018/19 season.

Onuachu made way for Mbwana Samatta in the 63rd minute while his compatriot Yisa Sor came on for Joseph Paintsil. Nigerian forward Ejaita Ifoni who donned the colours of Seraing was in action for 65 minutes. He was replaced by Vagner.
