Victor Osimhen was on target for Napoli, securing a 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the opening leg of their round of 16 showdown at Naples’ Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Barcelona took the lead in the 60th-minute courtesy of their prolific striker, Robert Lewandowski. However, Osimhen, widely coveted across Europe, leveled the scoreline in the 75th minute.
The Nigerian forward expertly maneuvered past Barca’s defender Iñigo Martínez to receive a well-placed pass from André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of Marc-André ter Stegen’s net.
This marked the debut match for newly appointed manager Francesco Calzona, who surely found solace in not commencing his tenure at Napoli with a defeat, all thanks to Osimhen’s decisive strike.
Osimhen’s equalizer came with his final involvement in the game, as he made way for Giovanni Simeone shortly after finding the back of the net.
