Osimhen scores 17th Serie goal in 18 games
Victor Osimhen scored his 17th Serie A goal of the season as Napoli trounced Cremonese 3-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday to go 16 points clear of second placed Inter Milan at the top of the table.
Napoli began the game on a bright note and were rewarded with the opener in the 22nd minute courtesy of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who celebrated his 22nd birthday. In the 65th minute, Osimhen scored what may count as the easiest goal he’ll bag this season, tapping the ball into the net from a yard after a pass from centre-back Min-jae Kim.
Substitute Eljif Elmas made it 3-0 in the 79th minute, condemning Cremonese to their 14th loss of the season in 22 games as their search for a first win of the season continued.
With 17 goals in 18 league appearances, Osimhen remains top on the goal scorers chart ahead of Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez who are both on 12 league goals from 21 games respectively.
Osimhen who was honoured with his Serie A Player of The Month award before the game has scored eight goals in his last six appearances as he continues to lead the charge for the Partenopei who are looking to win their first Scudetto championship after over 30 years.
Manager, Luciano Spalletti hailed the players for the performance, “Our city and these fans are keeping us on our toes, because everyone feels the desire to win,” Spalletti told DAZN after the win.
“There is total commitment, we have good lads as well as great professionals, they are all ready to tire themselves out to help the team. They must be ready to destroy themselves on the pitch to get a result, because a result makes the difference.”
