Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has been named EA’s Serie A Player of The Month for January beating compatriot and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, AS Roma forward Paolo Dybala, Inter Milan’s and Lazio’s Luis Alberto to the award.
The delivery of the POTM trophy will take place before the game between Napoli and Cremonese scheduled for Sunday 12 February 2023 at the “Diego Armando Maradona” stadium in Naples.
Osimhen secured the highest votes by fans on the EA Sports website. The Nigeria international had 50.6% of the total votes, Dybala garnered 30.6% of the votes while Martinez had 9.5% of votes. According to EA Sports, The five best players of the month have been selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system.
The Nigeria international in January scored five goals and provided one assist helping his side to four wins out of five games. His compatriot Lookman scored five goals while providing two assists helping Atalanta record three wins and two draws while Dybala scored two goals and provided three assists.
Martinez scored four goals in the month helping his team to three wins, one loss and a draw while Luis Alberto had one goal and two assists. This is Osimhen’s first Player of the Month award.
Reacting to the result of the polls, Serie A CEO, Luigi De Siervo, hailed the Super Eagles striker as the topmost striker in the league. ”In the month of January Victor Osimhen has confirmed himself as an authentic Top Player, one of the strongest strikers on the international scene – said Luigi De Siervo.
“With five goals in five matches, the Nigerian striker consolidated his place at the top of the goalscoring chart and once again demonstrated his leading role in a team that never stops surprising. In fact, this is the third time in five months that a Napoli player has been awarded the Player of the Month award, a demonstration of Napoli`s ability to discover and develop great talents.”
Osimhen who has scored 16 goals in 17 league games this season is the Serie A top scorer.
